Goal Setting For Your Window Cleaning Business...

In this article, we're going to talk about setting some goals in your window cleaning business.

I personally have always found that it's a whole lot easier to reach the big goals if I set a bunch of little goals that were easier to chew on.

By "small goals", I'm talking about:

  • distribute 500 flyers every Saturday morning.
  • mail 500 postcards every month.
  • talk to 2 carpet cleaners a week (until you run out of carpet cleaners-then switch to pressure washing companies).
  • establish relationships with 2 property managers each month.
  • advertise in one community newsletter every month.

etc. etc.

Ink these goals right into your calendar. By the way, the goals listed above aren't just goals that I came up with out of thin air. I grabbed them from one of my own goal sheets.  So I know for a fact that they're real, they're doable, and they will give you positive (and profitable) results.

Let's look at the first goal for example. This was from one of my earlier goal sheets because eventually this number went to 1000 flyers every Saturday. If you don't have the time to spend every Saturday morning distributing flyers, then have a couple of school kids do it. I paid 2 to 3 kids 20 to 25 bucks each to do this for me. It's an incredible investment for the results that it produced.

Just imagine how many customers you'll get if you consistently did some (preferably all) of the above goals. Some window cleaners will certainly do more and some may do less, but the point is that these smaller goals will surely accomplish your bigger goals.

The bigger goals might be things like buying a brand new motorcycle or taking the family on a cruise. Or it might be to create a six figure a year income from your window cleaning efforts. Whatever it might be, it doesn't matter. But the small goals need to be achieved first.

I had a good conversation with a new window cleaner recently. He told me early on when he first started in the window cleaning business that his goal was to secure 2 new customers per week.

Now this may not sound like much, but this window cleaner has another job and has very few hours each week to market and do window cleaning jobs, so to him 2 customers is ideal.

How's he doing so far? 79 customers to date. Some weeks he'll secure 3 customers, but most weeks he meets his goal of securing 2 customers.

Again this may not sound like much for those of us who are in the window cleaning business on a full time basis. We're dealing in the hundreds and he's dealing in the dozens. But that's ok. The point is that goal setting works! He has his objectives mapped out, he takes action on them, and he fulfills his goals.

Let's put this in practical terms. Let's say that your ultimate goal is to secure 3 solid customers each and every week. Would you agree that that's not a lot? It's not. But 3 customers each week is 132 customers a year (with 2 months off for vacation). Since each job on average is $200 to $250, you just bumped up your income between $26,400 and $33,000 PER YEAR!

If you carry this forward to the next year, but then factor in the repeat business that you'll do for those 132 customers again, the window cleaning business gets real exciting.

Now obviously not everyone will use your service a second time. That's just the way it is. But keep in mind that when I calculated the $26,400 to $33,000 dollar figures, I didn't even take into consideration the referrals that you'll receive and the extra services that you'll do.

So sit down today and set your goals for your window cleaning business.

Best Wishes,

Steve
