A Follow up Email from Tony...

I'm finishing the second night of the <marketing technique deleted> as I type this. Yesterday I picked up about $10,000 in jobs - I found 2 contractors willing to put my price into their bids - $25 just to show up and then $5 per main level window and $8 per second story. The nice thing is they only do replacement and remodel - no new construction.

 

Between the two, they install about 4,500 windows in <location deleted> each year. Also, as of right now, I have 180 solid estimates to do!! There were at least that many people who told me they were unhappy with their current window cleaner and said "I will be calling you" after taking my pamphlet and business card.

 

I also still have about 600 names in the "Free Drawing" to market to. Probably the best move I made was on the opposite end of the free drawing. I put out a clipboard and a sign that said "Sign Up for a Free Estimate". That's the list of 180 names that I have.

 

Plus I STILL HAVE TOMORROW!!!!!!!! Honestly I think this <marketing technique deleted> is going to profit me somewhere in the neighborhood of $30,000, and that doesn't include the word of mouth referrals I will get.

 

With the contractors, after I clean, I can leave the homeowners a business card and pick up some jobs there. March through May are booked SOLID six days a week and I have jobs booked as far as October. I'm going to look over the final numbers after tomorrow and then I'll give you the whole estimated profit and accounts I gained from this. I would recommend that anyone anywhere get into a <marketing technique deleted> as soon as possible. I am on cloud nine.

Hi Steve! Just wanted to drop you a line. When I first started in this business, I had been a loan officer for 6 years. Then the market hit and my 6 figure income took a huge hit. In December 2007 I ordered your materials. By January 2007 I started getting every tool and t-shirt i needed to get this window washing business started.

By the end of February my company hit the ground running and I made a $2000 profit. Well after 2 months of this. i decided i wanted to do more work and make more money. Everybody was happy with the work my company was putting out (those glistening windows).

I decided to market with postcards. So in late April and early May, my wife and I sent out about 7500 postcards to beautiful houses in our area. I may not be exactly where I want to be financially yet, but I am well on my way. My wife and I are on our way to see what new heights we can climb in this business. Thanks Steve for your enthusiasm, and helping me stick with this business when i didn't believe it would work.

Thanks for the great info. you have sent this year. I do appreciate the advice for success. I have followed your advice and I can actually say I’m in the business now. It’s not full time yet, but I continue to work on the marketing aspect all the time.

I receive many accolades from my customers for the high level of customer service and quality work performed.

I provided a bid on a member’s condo and was asked if I could do 300 condos. She advised me that she was the treasurer of the condo association and introduced me to the manager. I just mailed her copies of my insurance certificates with the possibility of having exclusivity as the window cleaner for this complex-perhaps as many as 150 to 200 potential customers in one given area.

I also just completed a bid on a restaurant in downtown San Diego, and had a bid accepted for a small market which is scheduled for this coming Saturday.

Steve, I can only see success for myself in this business as I continue to push ahead. I have researched awning cleaning and will be adding this service shortly as well as pressure washing in the future. I do excellent work and it is noticed. Thanks for being my mentor when I need you. Great talking to you. To follow up with our conversation, my projected sales this month will be $10,000. Wow!! I never dreamed I could make that much in one month. I have one really good employee that works with me. This year has been our best year so far. In May (our busy month) we do 2 to 4 houses a day depending on size. Some days we take in $300.00 and other days are $700.00. Average is about $400.00 to $500.00 a day. Our best day though this year we took in $1000.00.

We've been in biz a bit over 4 years now and I have not been doing any marketing. But, yes we do postcards, door hangers and reminder calls to our current customers. What I am getting right now is repeat customers and some phone book customers. Lots of word or mouth also. I had one lady tell me a friend of hers said we were the best. So, we went out and cleaned her windows. Later that day she called and left a message on my phone saying we were awesome. That is what make my business so rewarding. I never got any praise or thanks from any employer I ever worked for.

Oh, I also joined a network marketing group called BNI. It was one of the best moves I made 2nd to buying your package and following your instructions. BNI has made me more connected to the business community and given me a broader sphere of contacts. It makes me not alone in the business community. I have friends that I can share ideas with.

I just wanted to send you an email with news about what is happening. I have been busy handing out cards and going to a lot of businesses around town. It's like you said Steve, the commercial side of the window washing business is very cutthroat. It seems like <competitor name deleted> is charging next to nothing and has most of the town locked up.

On the residential side of the business though, things are really taking off. I was able to talk to the manager of a private country club and I gave him some business cards. He allowed me to leave some flyers and today I have already received 3 calls for estimates! Hehe. Your flyers are excellent. I had magnetic signs for my truck made up along with a yard sign. This is great. Wish I would have found your site and information LONG ago!

"It's almost too easy."

Steve, I'm out doing and people are responding to me with great appreciation thanks to you.

I just had a lady confirm an appointment the other day, but she wanted to make sure "I" was the one doing the job. Some customers are like that. I said "Yes I am. I might have a helper with me on larger jobs, but I am always on the job to make sure things get done right." She was excited because many window washers do the estimate and then send a couple of $10 an hour employees to do the work. She saw how I was dressed (nice), saw how professional I was, and wanted "me" to do the job.

It's funny, but I almost never have to do any talking except to tell them what the estimate amount came to. And once I give them the amount, they almost always say "When can you do it". I hardly ever have to explain how I stand out from most window washers. It's right in front of their face when I'm doing the estimate. I have had several ask for more business cards before I even cleaned their windows! And everyone who has had me clean their windows wants me to come back and do them again! It's almost too easy. ;-)

Thank you for the information that you have provided me about starting a residential window washing business. It works so well that I wish I started immediately after purchasing your package instead of waiting. I'd be several thousand dollars ahead of where I am now. Oh well...no worries because I know that is where I am headed.

I used your artwork to print up a few fliers, plus I talked to a few friends and the first Saturday I worked, I made enough from two jobs to pay for your instruction kit plus some basic window supply tools.

I also have a very full schedule this week based on referrals. As I was doing an estimate for a neighbor of my second customer, she said "I have never seen windows so clean as Nadine's". My third job came from a drive by who noticed my sign in front of Nadine's house.

I could go on and on and I have only been active two weeks in the business. I planned to do this part-time, but when I came home the other night, my wife questioned why I would keep working my other job!

I did buy a $24.95 package from someone else and it was weak. The manual is about 30 pages long and has more white space than print. Their idea of marketing is to walk into a business, say "Hi, can I wash your windows?", write a number on the back of a business card, and walk out. There is no "How to give an estimate", or "How to answer the phone", or nada...nothing. Your information on the other hand, seems to cover it all. I appreciate the thoroughness of the manual and the materials. It is 1000% better than what I bought previously and anything else I have seen on the market!

I've been getting a lot of calls (and jobs) during the past few weeks, and I would like to thank you for all your help. My customers really seem to like the professionalism of the estimates, and the Thank-You letter I send them afterwards. I've added my buddy to my team, and we've been knocking out houses in 2-3 hours in the $150-$220 range.

After doing a quick rundown, I've made $4435 since I first started. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but for me it's great because it's my first real achievement. I tried things in the past that actually lost me money.

I'm also starting to get a good reputation, people are starting to call me based on referrals.

I put out some flyers on Wednesday afternoon....not even an hour passed before I had calls to give two estimates. One estimate I did was for a lady who was home and it was $315. I close about 90% of the estimates I present with most people telling me my quote was the highest. Yet I get the job! What's the secret? Your estimate package! I’m touching base with you to let you know that the window job I emailed you about was a great success. You may recall my asking about cleaning windows with haze from the glazing compound and paint splatters. I cleaned over 800 true colonial lites exterior only in the house and 102 tcl’s in the office. I charged $1.00 each. After giving him a $50 discount, I made $852 for 18 hours of work. Not bad for a rookie! The best part is he wants me back in the fall to do the interior and free up all the windows that were painted shut by the painter. I’ll also touch up any areas that are damaged while I free up all the windows that were painted shut. I generally charge $35 per hour for handyman work.

I’d have to say that I’m off to a great start! Thanks for the follow up email info. I’ve made a copy and have placed it in a computer folder with other articles. Is there a chance of receiving past articles or do you have a file of articles that may be helpful? Thank you.
